When i decided to use ubuntu as main operation system, sound card was a big problem to use. Sound level was too low. What i discovered that we have the hidden option to increase sound level. Thats what i did:

Make sure you have the package “alsa-utils” installed.

For Ubuntu:
$ sudo apt-get install alsa-utils

For fedora:
$ sudo yum install alsa-utils

Then, run
$ alsamixer -c 0

and press f6 to switch other sound card properties if you have more than one sound card installed on your system.
